Outlook 2007 is garbling meeting requests.

MCM

I regularly receive meeting requests into my Outlook 2007 email from
my customers that are using Lotus Notes. (I'm on a 64-bit Windows 7
system with POP3 email). I'm able to properly view and accept these
request on my Blackberry, however my Outlook turns these requests into
a garbled mess of ASCII like the following.

What can I do to fix this?

I'm not on an exchange server. Just a simple setup with POP3 email
accounts, calendar and contacts.

Apparently I'm fully updated since no Outlook updates show up when I
"Check for Updates".

Any ideas?

Do you have all updates installed? What version of Exchange?http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;948451covers
problems with Exchange 2003.

Are you scanning incoming mail with an antivirus scanner? Something is
removing the TNEF data from the meeting request.

You're seeing the MIME Quoted-Printable data for the file getting displayed
instead of Outlook decoding the MIME properly. One cause of this is scanning
incoming messages with an antivirus program. If you do that, uninstall your
AV program and reinstall it without the mail scanning feature.

Actually - this Windows 7 machine doesn't have any antivirus software
installed. (Shhhh, don't tell anybody).

Well then, something is interfering with the proper reception of the MIME
structures, either because it was faulty when sent or because something
between the sender and your Outlook affected the data stream. AV programs are
the most common, but certainly not the only cause. Only you can determine the
rtue cause, since we can't investigate what's on your PC.

If your PC has no security software, don't connect it to the Internet.

I agree, Brian. Actually, I have Windows Defender running and was
running Norton but I removed Norton with the hope that I wouldn't get
garbled emails like I've reported above.

However, I'm still getting garbled emails. Any thoughts?

When you look in the Trust Center at the add-ins you have, what do you see?

Try disabling Google Desktop Outlook Toolbar, Infuzer Outlook Writer,
PDFMOutlook, and Sindows Search Email Indexer and test again. You'll need a
new message, since messages already received won't change. Reenable them one
at a time and retest between each reenablement. That should determine whether
or not one of them is the culprit.

I've disabled all Add-ins (COM and Exchange Client)... my test meeting
request is still messed up.

Could it have something to do with the fact that it originated from a
customer in the UK and I'm in the US? I can see the meeting request
correctly in my web mail interface and on my Blackberry. Outlook 2007
is the only thing that can't seem to decipher it.

Still frustrated.

I doubt the point of origin matters. Something about the message isn't
permitting Outlook to decode the message properly and in the vast majority of
cases, it's am add-in of some kind on the local PC that's wedged between
Outlook and the server causing a disruption or alteration in the data stream.
You've assured me that in your case it is not, so I really can't think of what
else it might be. Perhaps someone else will have an idea. Sorry I couldn't
solve the problem.
