Outlook 2007 keeps asking for a password in Vista

I have been searching for an answer for the constant requesting of
passwords in Outlook and also in Hotmail. I never had this issue
before. I have a brand new PC, with factory installed Vista Ultimate
and Office 2007 with Outlook 2007. It continually asks for a
password in Outlook and Hotmail. Does anyone know how to fix this?

I have a solution!!

After researching many of these posts on similar problems, I got really
disgusted at answers provided by some of these supposed "Outlook MVPs".

"Roady" consistently asks similar questions, "What version are you
using...", "Have you upgraded .....", but never comes up with a solution.

"Milly Staples", is useless and condescending. Her basic answer is always
"upgrade to Outlook 2007". And when I responded in a thread that Outlook
2007 had the same issue, she chastised me in that I should start my own
thread.

Well, I solved my password issue with Outlook 2007 and Hotmail. It is a
Vista issue, and in some way an Outlook and Hotmail issue because they
actually do not save the password as one is led to believe.

I went into the control panel to "User Accounts", "Manage your network
password", and "Store User Names and Passwords". In there I added the
logins/passwords for my Outlook and Hotmail accounts.

Works fine so far, though I think that Microsoft should allow the "save
Password" options to work as before.

Well, I solved my password issue with Outlook 2007 and Hotmail. It
is a Vista issue,

Then it's no wonder no one in an Outlook newsgroup could answer the
question.

Nonetheless, I have the very same problem in XP. I cannot use the solution by

Oops, I missed a point. It's not with Hotmail or MSN accounts, just regular
POP3 ones, too. The accounts are set up properly, as they work
properly...just that darn password request...

It worked for me!!!
Just removed what was there and inserted ID/PW again and now no prompt for a
password!!!!!!!

I paid for Vista and I paid for Office 2007. They should work.

Yep, got it to work over here too, needed to delete the current saved
password and retype it as well. Lots of stupid solutions that don't work out
there, including the registry edit and user account recreation.

It seems that the "save this password" option is broken, perhaps does not
have enough permissions to actually set the network password and instead
breaks everything. It's pretty dumb to have a centralized place to keep all
of your online passwords anyways, Microsoft.

Follow the following proceedures and create a new profile, if the problem
persist then is an ISP problem.
This issue may be caused by the damaged profile. Let's try to create a new
profile in Outlook then test if the problem persists in the new profile.

Note: A new Profile is a new environment for us to use Outlook. To create a
new Profile is only for a test to see if the problem is related to the
corrupt Profile of Outlook. Creating new Profile will not do any damage to
the old Profile.


1. On the Start menu, click Control Panel.

2. Click Switch to Classic View, and then click the Mail icon.

3. In the Mail Setup dialog box, click the Show Profiles button.

4. On the General tab, click to select the Prompt for a profile to be used
check box.

5. Click Add.

6. In the Profile Name box, type a descriptive name for the new profile, and
then click OK.


7. In the E-mail Accounts dialog box, click Add a new e-mail account, and
then click Next.


8. Select the appropriate server type for your new e-mail account, and then
click Next.

9. Fill in the appropriate information as prompted to configure the account
again, and then click Next.

10. Click OK.

11. Restart Outlook and select the new profile in the popup window.

Same issue in XP with Outlook 2003, except, when i go to Manage Network
Passwords IT"S BLANK, and I CAN TADD ONE?

How do you add one when the Outlook entry doesnt stick?!?

How do you enter a NETWORK PASSWORD in the USERACCOUNTS when it's BLANK and
there is NO "new' or 'add' button?!?

(XP and Outlook 2003, same issue asks for Password EVERY TIME)

I'm trying your solution to the Enter Network Password issue. Once I get to
the screen to enter my login and password, what address do I use to "logon
to"? Is it my mail.comcast.net for incoming mail and smtp.comcast.net for
outgoing mail, or is it the URL for my server: www.comcast.net? I'm not sure
what to enter as the logon information. Please help. . .this issue is driving
me crazy!

I also tried this solution:

BUT, it shows an EMPTY LIST, and there is NO ADD or NEW button to allow me
to create another entry??!??!??!

OH, I'm still in XP, but having the same issues with Outlook.

Less "what's your platform' and "do what it says in the knowledge Base" Many
of us are a bit smareter than that, and have already tried those 'fixes'
They DONT WORK for everybody.

That's why wee are in here. Looking for ANSWERS.

so, is there anybody in here willing and able to help fellow frustrated MS
users hack through the jungle of this conflagration they call software, to
make it workable??
