Outlook 2007- locks up, says its synchronizing folders

Outlook 2007- locks up, says its synchronizing folders. I have Outlook 2007
only on htis one computer. It will not let me do anything while it si
running. Sometimes it finishes quickly and things are back to normal.
Othertimes it seems to take forever.

What is happening and how can I correct it?

Hard to say without any details.
Which mail account type are you using?
Does it work correctly in Outlook Safe Mode?
Start-> Run; outlook.exe /safe

Have you applied Service Pack 2 for Office 2007 already?
