Outlook 2007: Microsoft Exchange is unavailable error after instal

J

J.Q.P

I am testing Outlook 2007 to roll out to all computers at my workplace. I
have tried everything I know to get Outlook 2007 to connect to our Exchange
server, and I have had our Microsoft Partner attempt to repair the problem
without success. The problem is that after installing Outlook 2007 on my or
any other computer, I am unable to connect to the Exchange server. I can
connect using Outlook 2003, and I've tested Outlook 2007 on other user
accounts without difficulty. The problem seems to have something to do with
my user account, but I don't know where to begin troubleshooting. I have
checked all Outlook settings and everything looks fine. I have used the
Exchange sever's IP, FQDN, etc., but Outlook refuses to find the Exchange
server under my user profile. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I have
been working around this problem for the past week.

I have seen this issue. Check your Mail servers for event issues regarding
Global Catalog. If exchange gets out of sync with the DC it is homed in on
and there have been changes to the DC/GC, Exchange sometimes doesn't see the
changes within the GC.

Rebooting your Entire Exchange Organization will most often reset the Sync.

Does this only occur on one machine or all machines upgraded to 2007?
Does this only occur for one account or all accounts?
Can someone elses account on exchange work on this machine using 2007?

Does any exchange accounts work on this machine using Outlook 2007?

I've tested Outlook 2007 using different accounts on my computer and using my
account on other computers. The problem seems only to occur when I am logged
on under my own account on any computer. Outlook 2007 automatically discovers
other user accounts within the domain on any computer without manual
configuration. I do not experience problems when I remove Outlook 2007 and
install Outlook 2003.

What version of Exchange are you running?
I woudl be looking into your acocunt using ADUC and verify settings, and
also confirm RUS is doing it's job regarding your account.

I'm running Exchange Server 2003 on a Windows 2003 Server. I checked the ADUC
and everything is configured as it should be. How can I confirm that RUS is
doing its job?

Event logs are a good indicator for RUN problems.
How many exchange servers are we dealing with here in the Exch. Org?

Since I could not find any information or assistance with this problem, I
resolved it by doing the following:
Created a new user file for myself to connect to Exchange.
Made my online folder the default because Outlook 2007 was complaining (i.e.
buttons wouldn’t work, couldn’t close dialogue boxes or e-mail items, etc.).

I would have gone to Microsoft for supposedly free support on this less than
90 day old product, but Microsoft disables Product IDs on their free e-mail
support website for volume licenses. Somewhat discouraging.
