Outlook 2007 needs a default gateway ??

Hi guys,

I have just upgraded to Office 2007 and migrated my Exchange Mailbox to
Outlook 2007.

All goes well but Outlook demands that a default gateway is specified, to
me this makes little sence since Outlook 2003 does not need this and the
Exchange Server is on the local LAN so no reason for it to try and go on
the Internet.

Any reson why this is needed ?

What is the exact text of the message? Just because two systems are on the
same LAN doesn't mean theiy're int he same network. Gateways allow systems
on the same LAN to talk to each other as well.

They are on the exact same network and we do not use a default gateway
since we have a Web Proxy Server and not a router.

The message was and i cant reproduce the exact same message now, basically
said Default Gateway is not specified. and now when i remove the default
gateway it says the Exchange Server not available.

Considering the server is on the same physical network and on the same
subnet why is Outlook 2007 fixated with the default gateway when previous
versions were not ?
