Outlook 2007 not showing email thread or VCard

There are actually two issues that are most likely tied together here. A few
users of OL2007 (including myself) have the same problem of opening an email
with a VCard attached.
The received email had been sent back and forth (responded to) a couple
times. The last time it came back it had the customers VCard attached and
when we opened the email we get the scrolling Orange bar (like it's trying to
find the attachment) but there is no visible attachment and the email thread
(where it has been responded to) is not there.
The email was also sent to an Outlook 2003 user and everything is visible
and works fine.
What changed in Outlook 2007 that causes this?
