Outlook 2007 Not Shutting Down

Outlook 2007 12.0.6014.5000 MSO 12.0.6017.5000
WinXP Home SP2
Office Professional 2007

When I exit/close Outlook 2007, it disappears from the task bar, but
when I use Task Manager to look at the processes it still shows up
there.

That is interfering with the running of my nightly backups because
the .pst files are still open and my backup program won't back them
up. I have to manually use Task Manager to end the OUTLOOK.EXE
process. I notice that there are still some I/Os going on when I
terminate it. That makes me afraid that terminating the process might
do something to corrupt the file.

I also notice that the little transparent box that displays the
incoming email headers in the bottom right corner of my screen keeps
on showing the incoming emails even after I close the program.

This is a constant repeatable behaviour. Sometimes the OUTLOOK.EXE
process will go away after 5-10 minutes. Other times I wait 15 minutes
or more and it is still running. I can't wait forever to run my
nightly backups which are done as an automatic task.

Any ideas or suggestions?

do you have the option checked to do a send/receive at any time other than
when OUTLOOK is not running or offline?

I have one group "All Account".

Checked are:
X Include this group in Send/Receive (F9)
X Schedule an automatic Send/Receive every 6 minutes
When Outlook is offine:
X Include this group in Send/Receive (F9)

At the above link is a suggestion to ...

"Most add-ins are shown in Tools-> Options-> tab Other-> button
Advanced Options...-> button Add-In Manager or button COM Add-ins."

When after I click on the Advanced button on the Other page, there is
no Add-In or COM Add-In button displayed.

Are you sure that suggestion applies to Outlook 2007? Thanks.
