Outlook 2007, Office Button missing in main window

K

kerswelld

Hello,

The Office Button and Quick Access toolbar have disappeared from the top
left corner of my Outlook "home" page. I see them when I open a message, but
not when I return to the home page. In it's place is the old "File, Edit,
View, Go, Tools, Actions, Help" text menu above the Standard toolbar.

I have tried the following solutions, with no success:
1. Run Diagnostics (did not detect or fix any issues)
2. Inactivated all add-ins
3. Disabled the email (Outlook) checking portion of my virus software (which
is Avast)
4. Run "Repair" Microsoft Small Office 2007 through Windows Add/Remove
programs
5. Started Outlook in safe mode via the command switch "Outlook.exe /safe"

I'm stuck for what else to try, apart from reinstalling Outlook and I am
afraid to do that because I don't want to lose any of my customized settings.

Any suggestions as to what I can do would be much appreciated. I'm running
Windows XP on a Dell D830 laptop.

thanks,
doug

It was never there - the main Outlook windows use the Office 2003 scheme. Only Outlook items (appts, mail messages, etc.) use the new Office 2007 Ribbon.

Dear Mr. Idiot - you are not the first person who has become confused by Office 2007 split Ribbon personality. So, you are not an idiot, just wishful thinking most likely.

Thanks Milly,

The fact that both Word and Excel 2007 both have the Office Button on their
primary page, and the fact that the Office Button is present on some Outlook
views seems to be a perfect recipe for confusion.

Do you know if there is a reason for it's omission on Outlook's home page?

The programmers did not have time to tackle the main Outlook Window. Ever wonder how much time it would take to redesign just the Tools->Options menu? Several months and a lot of resources so they left that (and a few others) until Office 14 to redesign.

I believe Publisher and a couple of other Office programs are due for a facelift as well.

I joined this group just to say thank you. I was going nuts trying to figure out what I had done to hide the ribbon on the main Outlook screen. Personally, the excuse that the programmers didn't have time is pretty lame - Excel is much more complex than Outlook and it was reprogrammed. Thanks again.
