Outlook 2007 Outlook.exe deleting itself

I seem to be having a very strange problem. When I start Outlook 2007
it stalls and then deletes the Outlook.exe file. This is a relativel
new problem (within the last week). All other files seem to be present
If I keep a full copy of Outlook.ext in another folder, that is als
deleted. In some cases, after restoring the file, Outlook will start t
come up but then stall and die. In other cases, it won't won't eve
start to come up but just deletes itself.

I've run several different types of anti-virus software including AVG
Avira, Spybot and none seem to find an issue or help. I've also ru
Avast and that doesn't help, although Avast is creating it's ow
problems. I've tried uninstalling Avast and it won't uninstall. I
seems to be locked in the registry and I can't remove it from there a
I get a message Access denied. I'm wondering if this is someho
affecting the Outlook. Any help is greatly appreciated

If you have installed several different AV's that can cause issues
If you cannot uninstall Avast you should look at the Avast site for help
Do you have a restore point for an occasion prior to installing any AV
software?
