I have a tricky problem with receiving Outlook pop3 email, which has only
started happening since I removed Office Pro 2003 and installed Office
Ultimate 2007 (fully patched).
Background
=======
I have a number of pop3 email accounts, a couple from my previous ISP
(Lineone/Tiscali) and a number from my current ISP. All settings are correct
and identical to those used previously in Outlook 2003, which worked fine for
send/receive on all accounts.
Two accounts are having this problem:
Account 1
email address: (e-mail address removed)
pop3 server: pop3.tiscali.co.uk
Account 2
email address: (e-mail address removed)
pop3 server: pop3.lineone.net
Problem
=====
Send/receive for account 1 (only) appears to connect to the mail server ok
(no error messages), but no messages are downloaded.
However, messages for account 2 are downloaded instead. This seems very
strange, and implies he's looking at the wrong server.
Send/receive for account 2 works correctly at all times.
I set up logging on the 60-trial system and this confirmed the number of
messages found/downloaded in each scenario.
The same problem occurs on the Office 2007 60-day trial which I have
installed on another machine.
A re-test on a third machine running Outlook 2003 is ok, proving the
settings and the ISP side should be ok.
Windows Mail has no problems with any of these accounts, with the same
settings.
I have tried deleting all mail accounts and setting up from scratch.
I have also deleted and set up a new Mail profile from scratch, and even
pointed this to a new pst file.
I'm currently working round the problem by getting the account 1 mail server
to forward to the account 2 server, but this is not ideal and I'd like to
find out why Outlook 2007 seems to handling these accounts differently.
