Outlook 2007 Previewers

If you click an attachment in a message you have either sent or
received, Outlook attempts to use a pre-viewer to show you the
contents of the message. This seems like an okay idea.

I sent an attachment that is an XML file, and I clicked the icon to
display the attachment. However, I receive the following:

This file cannot be previewed because there is no previewer
installed for it.

Browse for previewers online.

News flash-- an XML document is a text file. Outlook cannot display
the contents of text files?

On a serious note, I assume there is a registry setting or something
to associate XML files with text pre-viewers. Does anyone know how to
do this?

Thanks.

In Windows Explorer associate XML extension with Notepad or text editor of
your choice.

One way is to Shift-Right Click, Choose Open With, Choose NOTEPAD, Select
always Open With check box.

No. No. This won't do. Anyway, XML files are already associated with
my XML editor. This does not help me with Outlook 2007 pre-viewers.

I did a bit of searching and did find a free set of pre-viewers here:

XML files are included along with several other files. It doesn't
seem to work on Windows XP though, but it is supposed to work for
Vista.

The other registry hacks I have found did not work for me.

I just installed this on my laptop, which does run Vista. After
installation, I can preview XML files now in Outlook nicely. It only
displays it as plain text with coloring but does not perform any
formatting of the XML file.
