outlook 2007 prints contacts not in the current view

According to OUtlook 2007 help:
"Print a subset of your contacts
On the View menu, point to Current View, and then click Customize Current
View.
Click Filter, and then use the options to display only those contacts
(contact: Person, inside or outside of your organization, about whom you can
save several types of information, such as street and e-mail addresses,
telephone and fax numbers, and Web page URLs.) you want to print."

So I set up the filter to only show contacts that had either a home or
business address or a home or business phone. This is so the view does not
display contacts that consist solely of an email address. But when I go to
print this the print preview shows all the contacts - even the email only
ones. That turns a 3 page printout into 10 - wasting paper on info I don't
need or even want to see. Anyway to fix this?

thanks rodger

I don't know of anyone who uses Outlook's default print routines for the
very reasons you have proven yet again. Everyone I know uses mail merges to
customize their printouts to their liking.

Gee, that seems like the long way around - kind of like going from NYC to DC
via Rome (or less snarky having to cut any email text and paste it into word
before being able to print it.).

After reading the help instructions on using mail merge and running the
wizard all I could get was a list of names and addresses missing all the
other contact info. There must be some way to simply exclude contacts that
are not shown in the current Outlook view from being printed. I just want to
print out what it is showing me on the screen.

You're welcome to use Outlook's Print routines if you think they will work.
I gave up on them.
Normally with a mail merge you filter your View first, select those
Contacts, then do the merge to the selected Contacts.

Russ, I can understand why you would give up. This seems very poorly
designed for what should be a more than mature product. I did as you
suggested but all I ended up with were names and addresses, no phone numbers.
All I'm trying to do is print my address/phone book to take with me on
vacation. That's happening too soon to try and learn Word's mail merge -
which I will never need for any other reason.

That said I did figure out a way to print out the contacts in my view. I
selected the 1st contact visible in my view and then shift-clicked on the
last entry. The print dialog has a check box to only print the selected
items. Interestingly you can't use ctrl-A to make the selection because it
also selects the entries which are not visible in the view.
