Outlook 2007 Processes Remain Running

I have noticed that, even though you exit Outlook 2007, you still get
notifications that you received and email. Looking further, I found
that there were more than one Outlook processes running. Why? What is
the fix?

Something is keeping outlook open - usually sync software but it can be one
of many apps that accesses outlook data. If you use Vista and an Outlook
sidebar gadget, that's the cause.
