Outlook 2007 remains running after shutdown

I have the Office 2007 Enterprise edition. When I shutdown/close Outlook,
it remains running in the task manager, and if I don't recognize that, I am
unable to get messages on my mobile device.

I can't remember the actual program I had running, but one of the disk
indexing utilities does keep Outlook running even if you shut it down. It
may have been Copernic.

It seems that you hit the wrong group.
This one is on *ONENOTE*, not Otlook.

If you are syncing your device, ActiveSync (or windows mobile) will keep
outlook running as well.

OneNote actually will use Outlook too when it's not running. Though I don't
believe it holds it open indefinitely. Something either has a reference to
Outlook or a bad add-in is keeping Outlook alive, although in Outlook 2007
the latter is much more rare since Outlook takes steps to terminate itself
if an add-in is keeping it alive.
