Outlook 2007 (RTM) New Mail Notification still not fixed?

I've searched the groups and found people experiencing problems with
the new mail notification in Outlook 2007. The main problem is that
the mail icon in the system tray will only appear when new mail arrives
in the DEFAULT store inbox and stays there. If a rule moves the email
to a different folder, no mail icon will show up, nor will it show up
if email is delivered to an INBOX, but one that is not the default
store (i.e. when using an exchange account and a POP account).

So....I'm using the final Enterprise version, and the problem still
exists. Rules can be created to show the desktop alert notification
and also to play a sound, but if you aren't sitting in front of your
computer that doesn't help much.

Has anyone found a way to get the new mail icon to show up in the
system tray when ANY new mail arrives?

I am presuming you have that option selected? Right click the Outlook icon in the notification area and ensure it is checked.

I posted a similar question a while back but no-one seemed to know. I have
almost finished wrting an addon that will show an icon in the system tray
when any mail arrives, whether it is moved by a rule or not. In addition to
this, the icon will tell you how many un-read e-mails you have. Would you be
interested in testing it for me?

On my system I'm not hiding any system icons. Are you saying that if you
recieve a single e-mail that is moved, by a rule, to a mail folder other
than your inbox that you get to see a new mail icon in your system tray?

No. I hadn't read the initial post. If you move messages by rule from
Inbox to another folder, the new message alert icon won't be displayed.
That's how Outlook has behaved since Outlook 2003 SP2 (or perhaps SP1, I
don't recall). It was a deliberate move on Microsoft's part at the request
of people who didn't want the icon displayed unless the message stayed in
the Inbox. Instead of providing an option to change the behavior for those
who wanted it, Microsoft, as is their practice, made it an all-or-nothing
choice. They love to alienate some of their clientele at the expense of the
rest. They've nearly always done that.

My 'Show new mail desktop alert' is definitely checked on the Outlook
systray icon menu, and it's not Windows hiding the icon either, I've
set it to always show and I always check all the icons.

@ TIA: yeah, I would like to test your add-in (email me), I really
don't understand why Microsoft can't add an option to configure this
specific new mail notification always on, or only on for Inbox. I
mean, it will show the desktop alert for all mail even, but not the
icon.

You need to create a rule to display a desktop notification/alert when
messages arrive into the non-default folders. It should be fairly intuitive
using the blank rule wizard. Its been a few years since I've set this up (it
was like this in Office 2003).

Me too! Me too! Hey, how are you with Windows Mobile today plugins
Pocket Outlook exhibits the same un-functionality.

I'd be happy if I could get a new item alert to pop up and hear the alert
sound when a new e-mail is received in my inbox. My service is with MSN.com
and I'm using Outlook Connector, version 1.8.3501.0. I'm wondering if
Connector is the problem?
