Outlook 2007 sending multiple copies of same email to same address

Outlook 2007 occasionally is sending multiple copies (up to 20) of some
e-mails to contacts in a distribution list. Usually the subject email has a
large attachment >3mb. When one of the recipients tells me of the problem, I
then go to the outbox and sure enough the box still has that being sent email
in it. I cannot then stop the send and have to shut down outlook to stop it.
This is VERY embarrassing and annoying! This occurs randomly, and I have
lived with the problem for at least a year on two different computers. I have
compacted the .pst files. I have used several kinds of anti-virus and
anti-malware checkers which have found nothing. My ISP suggests I start using
Thunderbird and I'm about ready to. ANyone got some helpful thoughts?
