outlook 2007 stops responding during send and receive

Outlook 2007 stops responding during send and receive. If I am writing an
email and Send and Receive kicks in, my typing stops and the letters I've
keyed wont appear (if they appear) after the send and receive finishes. This
is very frustrating. I am using a core 2 duo with 2 gb ram.

Any help is very appreciated.
