Outlook 2007 throws an error that it cannot receive email

Office 2007 Ultimate, Outlook 2007 (12.06514.5000) SP2. After sitting idle
overnight Outlook 2007 throws an error that it cannot receive email. Closing
Outlook 2007 and restarting it resolves this issue. Outlook/Office 2003 on my
main PC does not exhibit this behavior. I've confirmed and re-confirmed my
email client settings with earthlink.net and the problem does not appear to
be there. Again, it seems to be with Outlook 2007 but only on this one PC (hp
180t Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit). I did uninstall my Original Office 2007
Professional and re-installed Office 2007 Ultimate but this issue still
persists. I was just wondering if anyone has run across anything like this
and has any ideas on other things I can check. Many thanks for any advice
anyone may have.

Does the same happen when you use Outlook in Safe Mode?
Start-> type; outlook.exe /safe
(note the space in the command)

If not, it is most likely caused by an add-in that you have installed.

Do you have a virus scanner installed which integrates itself with Outlook?
Uninstall this integration part of your virus scanner and try again; you'd
still be sufficiently protected by your on-access scanner part of the virus
scanner. For more details see;

Ah, thanks. I bet it is Norton as I normally use McAfee but the PC came with
Norton for 18 months "free" so I could not pass that up, just on a lark. I
forgot about this big change from the other Office 2003 PC that behaves fine.
Friends using McAfee also do not see my issue. It's only on the Norton PC.

Let me test these outstanding suggestions and I'll re-post. Please give me a
few days as it is usually overnight before I can reproduce the error. Thanks
again.

PS. I have spare McAfee licenses that I can switch to and I just find McAfee
8.7i to be much less intrusive but just as safe. But, like you say, I can
leave Norton with the email integration disabled and I'd be fine with that
too.

I'm almost positive that it is Norton Internet Security 2010. Checkmarking
"Protect against timeouts" may have been the fix but I admit that I dinked
around with several settings (I know - not a good idea if you are trying to
isolate the one culprit). I've gone two overnights now with Outlook 2007
still behaving just fine the next day. No more Receive errors after sitting
idle for long periods of time.
