For some reason, my thread from yesterday has disappeared. Just to inform the
community, here is a synopsis. I had Outlook 2003 on a Dell PC, running XP
SP3. The disk crashed a few days ago, so I transfered the 2003 PST file from
backup to a HP laptop running Vista and Outlook 2007. There was no problem.
Once my Dell PC was fixed, I tranferred the PST file back from the laptop to
the PC. The result was that most everything ran fine, now back under 2003,
except that I was unable to receive messages. Sending worked fine, calendar
and contacts were all OK and all folders were correct as well. Only when
trying to receive messages did I get an "unknown error."
What finally solved the problem was installing Office 2007 on the PC. That
was it; the original PST file is now happy as a clam, and I can receive
messages again.
