Outlook 2007 Very Slow when receiving email

I upgraded to Office2007 and it performs well except when receiving email.
Then Outlook grinds the whole system down.

I have 1.6 GHz processor, 1.24GB RAM, Windows XP (SP2)
Mail comes from POP3 accounts and I get a lot so this is a serious issue.

Does anyone else experience this? Is this a RAM issue?
Any advice will be appreciated.
