Outlook 2007/Vista STRANGE -can send email w/Windows Mail, not Out

R

Randy Stille

All, I'm at the end of myself here. I consider myself to be pretty good with
this stuff, but this is insane!

OK, I am running Office 2007 SP1, and Vista.

I have a POP email account at Register.com. The setting should be:
- incoming email: mail.isotropicllc.com, port 110
- outgoing email: mail.isotropicllc.com, port 25
- Server requires Authentication, same as incoming email checked, on the
profile

I make the *identical* account profiles in Windows Mail and Outlook 2007.

Windows Mail - sends and receives mail, no problem
Outlook 2007 - receives mail, can't send mail. Error:
"! Task '(e-mail address removed) - Sending' reported error
(0x80040201) :
'Unknown Error 0x80040201' "

I have tried just about every outgoing mail option. Unchecking
authentication, checking authentication and specifying a separate login
/password, specifiying login to the incoming mail server first. No change.

What I find even MORE troubling is that I can SUCCESSFULLY send a test email
when I 'Test Account Settings' in the outlook 2007 profile!!! How bizarre is
that? Test settings from the outlook profile works, yet when I send a
message from the outlook client it fails??

I tried another account on godaddy's servers - SAME RESULTS. Works on
windows mail, sending fails on Outlook 2007.

I'm ready to take my own life with a butter knife. Anyone care to rescue
me??

Any add-in services that might be interfering with Outlook email sending?
Norton, other antivirus, .... anything?

R

Randy Stille

I thought about that ... I did disable McAfee anti-virus but DID NOT
uninstall it. Perhaps I should uninstall??

One other behavior item ... if I remove my password, when receiving incoming
mail, Outlook does prompt for the password. When sending, there is no
password prompt.

So I don't even think it is getting to the authentication stage.

I'd think it was the router, except I tried in two different locations with
two different router brands ... same results. And if it was the router, I
am assuming the TEST message would fail too.

All sharp objects have been put in sealed, locked containers.

It is weird. What are your outbound mail settings?
You can try uninstalling McAfee then see if you can reinstall without any
email integration.

I removed McAfee, no change ... I turned on logging. Here is what appears

Oops. You've published your real mail address in an open forum. You expect
lots of junk and malware.

The sequence in the above indicates a failure to connect to the outgoing
server. I've found other references to 0x80040201 that indicate a new mail
profile may help. Try one.

Compose a new email and type in a full email address (i.e-
(e-mail address removed) )

I have seen a failure where Auto-Complete is building an internal Exchange
Mailbox name email of first-namelast-name (without the @ and without the
domain name).

AutoComplete may be trying to send the email to, for example: joesmith
(instead of)
(e-mail address removed)

I am having this very same issue! (Vista Outlook 2007)

The test email sends fine. I can send and receive emails and have been able
to for about a year, but now with one account I can not send any emails to
specific addresses; the really wierd thing, I have been sending emails to
these addresses all week.

Outlook does not give me any errors and always says its "preparing to send..."
In the words of Dark Helmet "Why are we always preparing? Just go," my
client has been more than "prepared" to receive it for over a day now!

I could really use any help. Thanks in advance.

Ok I belive I now know what the problem is, but not how to fix it.

I think my .pst file is too big (2.6GB) I compacted it an now some of my
emails went out (The smaller ones). Which makes me belive I am on the
threshold of Outlooks limitations. Short of deleting all my emails what are
my options.

Depends on your version of Outlook and the version of your .pst file:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/830336

If your .pst has the 2GB cap you would have passed that long ago?

Hello All,

I am also having similar problem with small differences.

Both outlook 2007 and windows mail works fine for sending/ receiving
emails. But once in a while I receive the following message from
Outlook 2007 "reported error (0x800CCC80) : 'None of the
authentication methods supported by this client are supported by your
server.'" The same email can be sent using the windows mail.

I have not changed any of my email settings for a long time.

Could someone help me on this one.

Thanks and Regards in advance,
Vijay
