Outlook 2007 will not allow me to empty "deleted items" folder

Recently migrated from Outlook 2003 (Win XP pro) to new machine (Vista) with
Outlook 2007. Various glitches were solved with "inbox repair tool", but it
will not allow delete without also holding shift key and answering prompt,
and it will not allo me to empty deleted items folder (now very large). I
think I have some kind of .pst file path problem, but can't get a handle on
it. Thanks for any suggestions...
