Outlook 2007 & Windows Search Issue

I hear MS internet rumblings (& grumblings) of slowness, hangs and crashes
after upgrading/installing Outlook 2007 on Windows XP SP2. I have this issue:
1. Running Outlook 2007 results in inability to connect to Exchange Server
2. Windows Search hangs, then crashes Windows Explorer
3. I recently migrated from Lotus Notes and Outlook has worked ("glitchy")
until yesterday when I noticed recent emails had not been sent (probably
because it was disconnected)

Issue may be related to MAPI, but I have run FIXMAPI and it did not fix the
problem.
Any suggestions?
