Outlook 2007 with Vista messages stuck in outbox

some, not all messages get stuck in out box. Have not figured out the
pattern but appears that replies will be sent.
no error messages but does say Send/recieve Complete with messages remaining
in outbox
Am able to delete messages in outbox, messages appear in italics.
