Outlook 2007 with Vista Ultimate

G

Graham

When I open Outlook a message appears at the bottom stating that a data file
did not close properly and that it being checked for problems, this slowly
dissappears -
Then the screen whites out and another message pops up stating that "outlook
has stopped working and that a problem has stopped working correctly. Windows
will close the program and notify me if a solution is available"

However the screen hanks on this message, I left it buzzing away for 3 hours
but nothing happened - I clicked close program and outlook shuts down.

I've uninstalled office 2007 and re installed but the same problem keeps
happaning.

Help.

Do you have anything that might hold Outlook open such as Add Ins, desktop
search tools, fax software, synch software (for use with a handheld), SPAM
filer, AV scanning your incoming and outgoing mail? You can turn off the mail
scanning without compromising your security since your real time scanner will
catch anything in your mail.

Run scanpst.exe against your data file. In order to do this you must unhide
hidden files and folders using Windows Explorer. Do a search for scanpst.exe.
Double-click it and run it, following the instructions. Browse to your data
file (normally it's called Outlook.pst but not sure with Outlook 2007 since I
haven't used it yet) and scan as often as required (until the scan finds no
errors).

Also, try creating a new Outlook profile to see if that makes any difference.

Good luck. Post back and let me know what happens.
