Outlook 2007 won't allow mesasages to be sent

When I try to send messages from Outlook either new or forwarding etc. it
tries to send and the icon apears in the system tray but it is flashing very
fast and then Outlook hangs.
I thought perhaps it might be a conflict with Anti Virus so I uninstalled
antivirus but still no better.

Any idiea?
