If the contact record contains an attachment, it is contained within the
contact record itself, not in a separate file. In what format are you
exporting it?

As a .txt file. But, not sure how they could be export even if export was in
a different format...
Where are these files? The icon in the note appears to be link to another
location.

When you look that the properties of the attachment after it opened from the
Note, it says that the attachment is in a temporary internet file, yet it is
not. I have looked for the referenced temp file and the document is not
there.....

Further suggestions?

Thx.

As I said, attachments are contained within the item. They're notr separate
entities.

When you open an attachment, a copy is extracted from the item and placed in a
temporary folder so that the application can open it. Nothing can be opened
unless it's first on the hard drive. Close the attachment and Outlook and the
temporary copy is (or should be) removed.

So the only way to get copies of these attachments is to open each contact
note with an attached file, open the document and do a "Save as" to a
permanent file?

Thx.

You don't have to open the attachment and choose Save As, you should be able
to drag the attachment to a Windows file system folder. There are third-party
tools that can extract attachments as well. Start here:
