Outlook 2007

For a few days I haven't been able to send emails from Outlook 2007. Error
message is 0x800CCC67 - contacted ISP (Virgin ex NTL), who told me to contact
Belkin (I have a router), who referred me to Microsoft. Followed suggested
fixes but still doesn't work. Went back to ISP who said definitely Microsoft
fault and the error is not one that they support, and the account settings
are definitely correct. I can send and receive through the Virgin webmail.
I've tried adding an account, profile, etc. - still no joy. The full error
reads 421 aamtaout01-winn.ispmail.ntl.com refused from [86.27.222.255]
I have Avast free virus protector, and have disabled, etc.
Nothing I try works - please HELP!!

Linda

I tried all the suggestions on the Microsoft help page, plus uninstalled and
reinstalled both Outlook on its own and Office 2007. Tried creating new
profile, new account, and still had the same problem When I do a repair on
my account, it says an encrypted connection to my email server is not
available, when I have the ooption to search for unencrypted connection, that
isn't available either. I do get incoming messages, but can't send. I'm not
a 'techy' but have tried all suggestions put to me. Because I can use my ISP
webmail they say there isn't a problem at their end. I'm getting absolutely
nowhere and would be really glad if you can help.

My little heart leapt when I thought I'd found something else to try - but
unfortunately I got another (different) error message and still can't connect
to the outgoing server. Thanks so much for your suggestion. Any other
ideas? I'm thinking if I can't resolve this, I might revert to Office 2003 -
what do you think?

I am having exactly the same problem but with Outlook 2003. I have done all
you have done and am so frustrated. My service provider also says it is a
Microsoft problem, as I can send and receive fine through the webmail.
I also have tried the other smtp (587) and it doesn't work at all. No
sending today. The interesting thing is I have two computers in my office,
completely separate and they are both doing the same thing. I have been out
of the country for three weeks, and both computers worked fine when we left,
and they are both disfunctional now - did Microsoft change something recently?

Strangely. my partner has had a problem which started before mine (he uses
Outlook 2003), and on a separate, stand-alone computer, although we have a
wireless connection for broadband access. I've also been trying to solve his
problem, but when I try the suggested repair to the application data file, it
can't find it! His error is 0x80040600. What seems even stranger is that he
can use it OK on his laptop (up to now, anyway!). On the desktop, he can't
access any of the folders in Outlook and therefore can't do anything at all
with it. I'm wondering again whether it'd be wise to revert to 2003 because
of all the problems there appear to be through reading forums - I'm
exhausted!!! If so many problems are reported generally with Outlook, is
Microsoft doing anything to put them right? I hate using webmail. I hope
you'll let me know if you eventually find a solution.

This appears to be a rejection by your ISP of the IP address you have been
assigned or of the port you're trying to use. Please state your server
names and ports. Include the encryption settings you've specified.

Brian - my settings are:
pop.ntlworld.com
smtp.ntlworld.com
Server Ports - Incoming: POP3 (Port 110), Outgoing SMTP (Port 25)
Encrypted connection - none
As I said, though, the ISP says the error isn't one they support, and they
say all settings are correct as I can send/receive from their webmail. Have
tried also changing ports, individually and together, as suggested in other
posts - all to no avail.

Are you able to get the mail out of this account from another computer? That is,
have you isolated the problem as being with your computer instead of with the
ISP, ignoring web mail for the moment?

Download and run a program called Magic Mail Monitor. It is a free utility that
allows you to peek into a POP box and download mail without disturbing it. If
you can get the mail with MMM, the problem is definitely in Outlook or your
operating system.

Sorry to be thick, but how do I use my mail from another computer, please?
Unfortunately, I can't try it from my partner's computer as he can't get
anywhere at all with Outlook (2003) - another tale of woe. And do you mean
download the MMM on my computer? I got a new computer earlier this year - HP
Pavilion Slimline s2320, with Vista Home Premium installed (mainly so I could
install Office 2007 as my old computer didn't have enough memory for it).
The broadband is connected through a cable modem on the older computer, and I
have a USB wireless adaptor. Neither of us have had any problems until the
last couple of weeks. Thanks for your attention to my problem, further
advice would be really good.

Are you authenticating to the outgoing server? Is your sending address's
domain the same as the domain of your outgoing server? Are you connected to
the NTL network when you attempt the send/receive?
As I said, though, the ISP says the error isn't one they support,

It is their server generating the "421 aamtaout01-winn.ispmail.ntl.com
refused from [86.27.222.255]" error, so they're lying to you (or ignorant).

I've just been back on to Virgin, who set me up on Windows Mail, the same
error occurred, and they referred me to their technical support (£1 per
minute - but I've asked for a refund!). They talked me through deleting the
..dbx file (it could only find the one in Outlook Express. Said they hadn't
heard of that error before and said the outbox must be corrupted and that I
should use my recovery disk. They again checked my settings and said all OK.
I'm a bit scared about using the recovery disk - now what, please?

I actually don't believe this - BUT - I've just sent a test email and it
worked!!! Don't feel confident as to how long it'll last, though. Re your
questions, I don't really know how to find this out, if you want to help
again? I'm wondering whether the technical support people at Virgin looked
into the error, as they hadn't heard of it before, and maybe fixed it??

L

Linda

I've been looking further into Outlook since sending this - I have 3 personal
folders listed, one that still had earlier emails in - when I click on each
of the Personal Folders to get Outlook Today, it shows 0 for each listing
(messages and tasks, and when I click on Customise Outlook Today it says
Cannot display the folder. Microsoft Office Outlook cannot access the
specified folder location. I suppose I'm thankful that I can send and
receive emails again, but is this likely to cause another problem?

Based on the content of what you posted after this post, you have something
badly misconfigured and a new mail profile may be appropriate.
Re your
questions, I don't really know how to find this out, if you want to help
again? I'm wondering whether the technical support people at Virgin
looked
into the error, as they hadn't heard of it before, and maybe fixed it??

The answers to the first two questions are found in your account settings.
You created the accounts, so you must know the answers. The answer to the
third question also should be well known to you, since you set up your PC.

L

Linda

I'm not authenticating to the outgoing server (as advised by Virgin), domains
are the same, and I'm connected to LAN - is this what you mean? I did
outline my settings in another posting. Re the three personal files - I've
gone into the data files tab in account settings and there are three personal
folders listed - the first is Outlook.pst etc Default, the next one is
Outlook.1 and the third one is Outlook(1) - can I delete the last two? I'm
not sure whether this happened when I was on to the Virgin helpline when they
were checking settings, and before speaking to their Technical Support.

B

Brian Tillman [MVP - Outlook]

I'm not authenticating to the outgoing server (as advised by Virgin),
domains
are the same, and I'm connected to LAN - is this what you mean?

Almost. "Connected to LAN" doesn't say _which_ network.
I did outline my settings in another posting.

You didn't specify the ports. I went to Virgin's web site to look at what
they expect. What you described in your earlier note does correspond with
the web site. I also would expect your mail address to contain
"ntlworld.com" as the domain if you are using smtp.ntlworld.com as the
outgoing server. Moreover, I would expect you to be connected to the Virgin
network at the time you send mail, not to, say, the network provided by a
wireless hotspot at Starbucks. Are you connected to the Virgin network when
you try to send mail?
Re the three personal files - I've
gone into the data files tab in account settings and there are three
personal
folders listed - the first is Outlook.pst etc Default, the next one is
Outlook.1 and the third one is Outlook(1) - can I delete the last two?

Which one is designated as the default? Do you see all of the mail,
contacts, calendar events, etc. you expect to see when you look in the
folders under the "Outlook Today" root (the one whose icon contains the
house, paper, and clock)? If so, then, yes, it should be safe to remove the
others.

Ben M. Schorr - MVP (OneNote)

I think your ISP isn't being truthful with you. Just because you can
send/receive webmail doesn't mean they have your configuration correct
for SMTP/POP/IMAP mail (which is what Outlook uses). I would go back to
them, try to get a different support person, and ask them to confirm
your settings.

Also ask them if you have a block list. A "refused from [IP ADDRESS]"
message sounds to me like they've blocked your IP address perhaps
because of suspected spamming or malware.
