Outlook 2007

My Outlook 2007 will not open. The message says there is a corrupt .pst file.
The repair tool will not work. It appears that I will have to re-install
Outlook but do NOT want to lose my data. I have found the personal file
folder and have backed it up to an external drive.
How can I import that into Outlook if I do re-install. The import function
asks for an ACCESS, EXCEL or .pst file. The personal data folder I backed up
will not open to reveal the files contained.

Back up a bit before you start down the road to disaster.

How big is the .pst file? Is is unicode or ansi (File->Data File
Management - what does your .pst file type say - 97/2002 or Personal Folders
File)?

Reinstalling seldom solves any problems. You would be better served by
running a Detect and Repair. Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs->Microsoft
Office->Change->Repair.

If you must use your course of action, DO NOT import the .pst file. Simply
open it in Outlook using File->Open->Personal Folders File.
