Outlook 2010- Email... attached images not showing in text area

This may be a simple correction of my expectations but emails with image
file attachments only show red X placeholders in the message area instead of
the images
themselves, and in the placeholder frame is the statement that "The linked
image cannot be displayed. The file has been moved, renamed, or deleted".

What link? It is right there as an attachment.

Is this part of Outlook's over the top unmoveable default security mode or
is there something that I can change or modify to make this happen like it
did in OE.

Thanks

it's not security. If the image is attached to the message, something caused
outlook to think its not. Possibly an antivirus scanner corrupted the
message - embedded images are linked by CID tags and if outlook can't find
the attachment identified by the CID, it can't load the message.

It has become an enigma. After some investigating, I can add more info,
however. I have Windows 7, Outlook 2010
1. Newly received emails with image file attachments show nothing in the
message field... unlike OE does. I think Outlook should, too. I have to use
an image viewing program to view each image individually (how dumb is
that??)
2. Old saved emails with image file attachment that I had originally saved
in OE before the migration over to Outlook, show the Red X placeholders
where images used to visible in OE (and may be damaged permanently?).
3. I have turned off my virus scanner to no benefit.
4. I have emptied all of my TIF Content.IE5 folders to no benefit.
5. I ran a suggested reg file and it did not work, either.
6. Embedded images do show and I can email embedded images without issue.

Thanks for you help. Any more suggestions? I would hate to hear that
Microsoft made Outlook this way. This is way too stupid of a concept to be
true (please).

1. is normal behavior. See http://www.slipstick.com/mail1/inline.asp
2. Its something with the migration. Assuming the image was attached, and
not embedded, moving the messages should not embed the image. How did you
migrate? A different method might work better.

Based on questions 1 and 2, 3-6 are not at all related to the actual
problem.

Sorry, I don't know how the migration was done (outside firm). What would
be the best expected result of an OE migration? I imagine that that would be
no images in the message area with no Red X placeholders either, right?

There do seem to be a lot of Outlook Add-Ons. I am surprised that there is
no "OE Style Image Viewing" add-on. Is there an indequate demand for this
function, is it a programming impossibility or is Microsoft a legal
roadblock to it??

Thanks

It has become an enigma. After some investigating, I can add more info,
however. I have Windows 7, Outlook 2010

2 1/2 yrs later and we're still dealing with embedded images in Outlook!
Larry B., I have the same setup, Windows 7, Outlook 2010.
In testing *my* problem, I was sending embedded images to myself. They were coming in with the red x and usual verbage.
After 13 1/2 hrs of constant trouble shooting, my problem centered on Outlook and sending jpg's. Other email clients worked (MS Mail Live). Other image types worked! The problem was independent of ISP.

Bottom line, I tracted my problem down to MIME type!
On my computer, WITH Outlook:
..bmp's were being sent fine. My computer showed a MIME type of: image/bmp.
..gif's were being sent fine. My computer showed a MIME type of: image/gif.
..jpg's were being stripped. My computer showed a MIME type of: <blank>

(Mind you, during all of this, all image formats worked perfectly with MS Mail Live!)

I edited the .jpg MIME type to: image/jpeg

Every email went through correctly with embedded jpg images.

I don't know if this is your "magic bullet" but it was mine, even though it cost me 13 1/2 hrs of painful research and trouble shooting!

Hi I have only one question, how did you edit the MIME type ? I think I have the same problem, but can not find a good "how to" on editing the MIME file
