Outlook 2010 very slow send

Larry

I have a user with a realatively new computer and running Windows 7.
He is using Outlook 2010 to send and receive e-mails with Comcast as
his mail provider (POP3/SMTP). His issue is that when he attempts to
send a mail, it can be anywhere from many minutes to many hours, to a
few days before the mail finally leaves his Outbox! The computer is a
2.6 GHz dual core processor, 8 gig memory, and is almost completely
idle when I look at it in task manager. His internet connection is
fast. The messages he is sending are quite fairly small, about 40-50
kB. His .pst file is about 1.5 GB and is a new file, not an old
Outlook 2003 file that has been connected to his current iteration of
Outlook.

Does anyone have any clue about this one?

Thanks,

Larry

Tools -> Options -> Mail Format tab -> Internet Format

Is the HTML option enabled for "When an HTML message contains pictures
located on the Internet ..."? That means if the user is linking in
(rather than inserting or pasting in) pictures from some server host
that its content must get retrieved and inserted into the outbound
e-mail before it gets sent. This ensures the recipient can actually get
the picture rather than relying on a link (that might end up with just a
red "X" placeholder inside the e-mail body).

Linking to external content also includes signatures. It's possible
that linked content is included in a signature. That could explain why
the delay happens for all outbound e-mails if the user configured
Outlook to add the signature to all their messages.

Rather than disable this option (because it provides a convenience to
the recipient which the sender really wants to get that content), check
if the user is linking to external content, like large picture files.

Also see if performance picks up dramatically if Outlook is loaded in
its safe mode ("outlook.exe /safe"). Could be an add-on that the user
installed is severely slowing down the transmission, like an anti-virus
program interrogating his e-mails.

VanguardLH,

Thanks for the input. The user is not including any Internet content,
but add-ons are a possibility. I'll check on this and get back.

Thanks,

Hi Guys, pls go easy on me, I am a brand new user.

I have the same problem:
User with new laptop and office 2007 (no service packs installed). The problem is that a moderately sized email takes FOREVER to leave the outbox. (800Kb mail takes about 5mins. 2Mb takes nearly an hour, sometimes more.) The other computers on the same network have no issue whatsoever sending large mails.

here is my process of troubleshooting:
1. Changed SMTP server - didnt help.
2. Recreated the POP account - didnt help.
3. Disabled all add ins - Didnt help.
4. Installed SP1 - didnt help.
5. Installed SP2 - didnt help.
6. removed Office 2007, Installed Office 2010 - didnt help.

I am in the process of creating a new PST file and copying all data to the new file. Hope that helps.

Does anybody have any ideas? I am seriously running out of options.

Kind Regards,
H.

Windoze 7; Outlook 2010; POP accounts with Comcast.

Not having the speed problem, but HTML emails forwarded as attachments deliver to recipient in plain text.

Also one of the three email accounts downloads duplicate messages on the same download. Not happening on other accounts and did not happen with same configuratios on XP Pro and Vista with Outlook 2003, 2007 and 2010 - only with Win 7 and same three versions of Outlook.
