outlook 207 converting html emails to plain text

I am on a few mailing lists that send information in html-formatted emails.
Recently the emails started appearing in my outlook inbox in plain text,
making them virtually unreadable (all of the hyperlink addresses are spelled
out). When I access the email from the internet, they appear in html as they
should, which means the problem is apparently within Outlook 2007. I didn't
intentionally set up my mailboxes to block html messages, and in fact some
html-formatted emails still get through. Does anyone know why this started
happening and how I can fix it? Thanks!

i had this issue too and after weeks of frustration, just got it
figured out. hope this is of help to you:

for reasons i don't understand, having the option set to not
automatically download images caused emails to be displayed as if the
"show as text only" box was selected (when it was not).

(setting in Tools / Trust Cetner / Automatic Downloads)

Changing the setting to allow automatic download of images "fixed" the
issue and I can now receive emails in HTML format. Of course every
spammer now knows when they successfully deliver a message to me...

I'm going crazy. I send completely formatted emails to my customers and to
myself for future reference. For some reason the emails I send to myself
come into my inbox unformatted. If I wanted to send the same email off to
new customers I have to do it all over again because it is unformatted. Is
there a setting to fix it so I RECEIVE all emails as HTML's if they were sent
that way??

I made these changes to my Automatic Downloads months ago; I still have HTML
files that are downloaded as text only. And I put the senders all on my safe
list, as well. Any other ideas?
