Outlook 2k re-downloads POP mail

Hi all,
Every so often outlook 2k decides to re-download all the messages on
my
POP mail server. This translates into hundreds or thousands of duplicate
emails. Help! I don't want to set outlook to delete messages off POP
server since I sometimes use the webmail features to check mail when on the
road.
