Outlook 97, all incoming messages have attachment

Since my new pc shipped with Outlook Express, I dug out
my Outlook 97 disks and installed it. Every piece of mail
arrives with an attachment in the BODY of the mail. All
carry the label "ATT0000x.HTML ("x" is a number). Any
advice on undoing this annoyance?

I'm not sure the root-cause of this problem. Sorry. Guess you should
just go through all the preferential settings/options and find the
controlling one.

However, Outlook 97 is really old, and it has many bugs. Ensure you
have the latest version. Even the latest version won't be flawless.
It's probably impossible to get the Service Releases for it anymore. I
recall SR-1 was a key one. Outlook 97 is probably very insecure in
today's world of email-based computer viruses. Outlook 97 defunct.

You may wish to consider solving your problem by abandoning use of
Outlook 97 and use OE that shipped with your new PC as you email and
newsgroup software. Reconsider your decision not to use OE. It is
excellent software.

If you need full Outlook capabilities (as a personal information manager
tool), then consider buying a copy of Outlook 2003.

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

Outlook 97 is incapable of rendering HTML mail so that is why you get that
attachment. Upgrade to a newer version if you need the PIM features.
Otherwise, use OE since it is just fine for mail and news.

Post all replies to the group to keep the discussion intact. Due to
the (insert latest virus name here) virus, all mail sent to my personal
account will be deleted without reading.

After searching google.groups.com and finding no answer, Duffy asked:
