outlook 97 application error not seen before

a workstation user is getting the error:
application error
outlook.exe
access violation 0xc0000005 0x00000000

this seems to occur only when appointment reminders appear.

I do find similar error in the group, yet it's not the same. Why is this
occurring? And how do I fix it?

Do you use the preview pane? If yes, a corrupt message in the inbox can
cause this. Believe the /nopreview command line switch still works in
Outlook 97. (You can also run SCANPST.EXE and/or do a compact if PST files
are involved.)

or

One of the MAPI files could also be corrupt. See MS KB Q172350

or

Reinstall the MAPI files by first renaming the files in the \windows\system
folder to old and then reinstall Office 97 from |control panel | add/remove
programs |MS Office 97.

Do you use the preview pane? No with the exception of scanpst.exe the others
have been tried. Still it re-occurs.

Run scanpst.exe to see if there are any errors. Also, try openning Outlook
with a switch, not sure if switches work on a version as old as 97 though.

Start > Run > outlook.exe /cleanreminders.
