Was it an internal or external address?
I believe the default for Exchange Server is not to reply to external email
addresses.

I believe there is, but not sure where.
Generally it's not considered a good idea due to confirming your email
address to an SAMers.

YOu can ask your exchange admin to change it on the IMC on Exchange 5.5 -
but be prepared for gales of humiliating laughter.

If the recipient is not part of the Domain then it could be that Exchange is
configured not to send OOF to the internet
