Outlook 98 - not shutting down.

Trevor

Having started Outlook 98 and connected to the internet, I
find that it hasn't completely shut down when I go to
close down my PC. I get this warning of a 'hidden layered
window'! When I END this, my PC shuts down as normal. I
know its a problem with Outlook because if I don't use it,
my PC shuts down normally. Have tried reinstallation.

There is a problem with outlook shutting down when certain other
programs are installed (WinFax Pro, which I use, is one of the programs
that causes this problem, but there are others as well). However, the
symptoms are somewhat different than what you describe.

My recommendation would be to upgrade to Outlook 2003, which is a far,
far better program. You can get Office 2003 Students & Teachers edition
for $89 (Amazon.com, on sale and after rebate), and it allows legal
installation on 3 machines in the same household.
