outlook address book

I moved to a new laptop and cannot access the address
book. The old machine had Outlook 2000, the new Outlook
2002. I moved the .pst files to the new pc. All info from
the 'Contacts' folder moved, but when I click the 'Address
Book' icon, I get the following error:
"Address List cannot be displayed. The Contacts folder
associated with this list could not be opened; it may have
been moved or deleted..."

Any help is appreciated.

Look around before you post. Answer is posted several times a day here.

It is not unusual for the Outlook Address Book to "lose track" of the
connection to its Contacts Folder when you move or import your PST or update
your Outlook version or OS. Use the following steps to reset the connection,
depending on your Outlook version. Note that in some instances you may
actually have to remove the Outlook Address Book completely from your
Profile, close Outlook, and then re-add it before you can get it to work.

Outlook 2000, Corp/Workgroup:
Go to Tools > Services. Make sure the Outlook Address Book service is
listed. If not, add it. Next, R click on the Contact folder or folders you
want the OAB to display, choose "Properties", go to the Outlook Address Book
tab and check the "Show this folder as an E-mail address book" box. You may
also need to go to Tools > Options > Addressing Tab and choose to show your
Contacts folder.

Outlook 2002:
Go to Tools | E-mail accounts, select "View or change existing directories
or address books", and click OK. If you don't see the OAB in the Directories
and Address Books list, click the Back button, then select "Add a new
directory or address book", then "Additional Address Books", and add the
OAB. Then keep clicking Back until you get back to the first dialog box,
and go back to the Directories and Address Books list as you did earlier.
Once the OAB appears in the list, select it and then click Change to make
sure the Contacts folder(s) you want to display are listed. If any of them
aren't listed, you'll need to enable those Contacts folders as Outlook
Address Books by right clicking the folder, selecting Properties, clicking
the Outlook Address Book tab, and checking the "Show this folder as an
E-mail address book" box. Make sure you restart Outlook after making these
changes.

I have a 2 part Problem. First, my computer crashed and I have
reinstalled Outlook 03. I'm trying to "use" my saved copy of the my
Contacts, Old Email Etc. I'm not sure if I've found the old file or
not, but I believe it is outlook.pst. I'm trying to install it, and
figure it goes in an Outlook file folder but the only Outlook file
folder I find when I so a search is in my Old Hard Drive File Data.
So my question, where should I put the outlook.pst file so my recently
installed program can find it.

My 2nd question is I would like to access my Outlook files from my
desktop and from my laptop. Whenever I open an email from one the
other machine can't see it. I've heard there is a "web access" or
something that lets you see old mail, new mail, etc from any machine.
If there is, how do I set it up.

Thanks,
Craig

It does not matter where you put the PST file. What matters is that you
configure Outlook to use it correctly.
- Go to Tools > Options > Mail Setup > Data Files > Add...
- Add the PST you'd like as your new default, then Close > OK to exit the
Options dialog
- Go to Tools > E-mail Accounts > View or change existing e-mail accounts
- Select the PST you just added in the "Deliver New e-mail to the following
location" dropdown (it will most likely appear just below the current
default Personal Folders file) > Finish
- Exit and Restart Outlook
- You can now close the previous default PST (R-click on that pst folder
while in Folder View and select "Close <foldername> Folders"). If you have
any information in your former PST that you'd like to transfer to your new
default PST, you can drag and drop from one to the other before you close
the old one.
