Outlook - All received messages disappear when status changes to r

All received messages disappear when the status changes to "read". I doesn't
seem to matter how the change of status occurs. The messages do not go to
deleted items or any other folder I can locate.

Your view is probably set to "unread messages".
Select View > Current View > Messages. They should all become visible again.
