I just installed the recent (June 10, 2008) updates for XP and now Comcast
POP won't allow a TCP/IP connection to Outlook 2000. It has worked fine in
the past 7 years. Comcast and the updates work OK with Outlook Express. When
I did a restore to a previous setpoint, which removed the XP updates all is
OK. Comcast was no help, except trying to use SSL ports for incoming and
outgoing POP account which did not help.
It seems to be in one of the following XP updates:
1. Microsoft Security Bulletin MS08-032 - Moderate
Cumulative Security Update of ActiveX Kill Bits (950760)
2. Microsoft Security Bulletin MS08-031 - Critical
Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer (950759)
3. Microsoft Security Bulletin MS08-036 – Important
Vulnerabilities in Pragmatic General Multicast (PGM) Could Allow Denial of
Service (950762)
4. Microsoft Security Bulletin MS08-030 – Critical
Vulnerability in Bluetooth Stack Could Allow Remote Code Execution (951376)
5. Microsoft Security Bulletin MS08-033 – Critical
Vulnerabilities in DirectX Could Allow Remote Code Execution (951698)
6. Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool (890830)
