Outlook and Outlook Express

It has been perennially stated that Outlook Express is not part
of Office but this morning Bruce Hagen stated in
m.p.outlookexpress.general that Outlook relies on OE to read
newsgroups. I am a little puzzled by this since it seems to make
OE at least an associate part of Office even if it also been
stated that Microsoft does not intend to upgrade it. Before I
seriously consider buying Office 2007 can someone tell me how
Outlook will read newsgroups in the future? I will admit that I
do not often use Outlook for e-mail or news reading.

Hi James,

Outlook Express is being replaced with Windows Mail in Vista, which look A
LOT like OE. Windows Mail will read newsgroups. Until you get Vista, OE is
there for you. :)

Thanks! I'll have to see if I can find a machine running Vista
and try it out when, if I understand correctly, it becomes
available.

Thanks! Can you tell me if Windows Mail has improved on the
"Rules" of Outlook Express? What I'd particularly like to do is
delete all cross-posted mail. I recognize that cross-posting
sometimes has legitimate uses but I think I could live with that
small loss!

I know another MVP who's been using it. I can ask him. About the only
"glitch" he's mentioned is that sometimes it appears that an email has not
been sent so he hits send again...and then I get both.

According to my source, you still can't filter out cross-posted threads.

message
not all cross posted threads are wrong.

NIK
I admitted that in my initial post but I doubt that much
important discussion would be lost by eliminating them!
