Outlook and Secure Password Authentication on Outgoing mail connections

Hi

I'm currently running

Application name: Outlook
Version: 10.0
Build: 2627

When attempting to activate Secure Password Authentication (SPA) on my
outgoing mail (SMTP) servers it doesn't work.

Specifically, when running 'Test Account Settings' all works ok. Outlook
requests authorization from the mail server and receives it, sending mail
successfully. However, when trying to then send mail normally, Outlook
doesn't request authorization against the SMTP server.

Outlook Express works 100% in both test and production.

Any ideas would be very much appreciated.
