Outlook applies "unread messages only" filter to almost all my folders

Recently I have found that most, but not all my filters have had this
filter applied. I have applied this filter manually for selected
folders (that accumulate list postings) as a way to burn down a lot of
unread messages.

But I know of no way to apply this setting globally. And since I
can't apply it globally, I can't * undo * globally.

What do I do to remove this filter globally?

OL 2003 running on Win XP SP 2 with autopatching active.
