Hi
I am just wondering, can outlook be used as a tool to manage people and
evaluate and improve the way people communicate.
Background:
1. People work in distributed geographies.
2. The managers and the staff are separated by distance and time zones.
3. Managers most of the time is spent in follow up mails, and they call the
staff during odd hours to get things done.
4. Basic assumption is if a staff gets a mail from a manager, he is expected
to reply to that. But due to many reasons, this is missed and the manager has
to spend time on follow ups.
Suggestion for Features:
1. The person sending a mail can specify the date/ time by which he is
expecting a reply.
2. The outlook can give alerts for the mails, like the same way that
calendar or the meeting request provides.
3. The person sending a mail...say the manager, can mark the mail as
initiate, follow up, to acted upon, for information and other relevant flags
or status. Based on this flag the receiver can sort and act upon the mails.
4. The manager should be able to generate a report and export to excel,
which should provide useful information about the staff's communication
efficiency. Eg:
- How many follow up mails has been sent to an employee
- For how many mails the reply date was not met for an employee
I believe the above features should improve the communication level of the
staffs.
Thanks
Sriram
