Outlook Attachments Missing

Ron

I recently found out that some of my e-mail recipients
are not getting my attachments (.doc, .jpg, .tif). Note
these are small file attachments. My copies of the e-
mail look fine and so do the attachments, yet some
recipients are saying there are no attachments. Others
never respond so I don't know if they got them or not.
Others said they could open them but the text was
all "RED" vs Black on my system (created with Automatic
color). I re-transmitted the attachments as "Plain Text"
to those that did not receive the attachments and one of
the recipients said they were able to open the file but
it had all "Red" text and the format looked corrupted.

I have one of the first Dell Dimension 8100 Series
Pentium IV computers (2/01) that had the Millennium Me
operating system and Office 2000 for Small Business pre-
installed on it. I subsequently upgraded the operating
system to Windows XP (in 12/02) but kept the Office 2000
packages. These have been updated with all appropriate
Downloads from Microsoft.

The attachments were created using Word 2000 and are in
Microsoft's rich text format (TNEF). They were attached
to e-mail using Outlook 2000 that uses Word as the
default editor. I don't think I have any virus that is
causing this problem. I have Norton 2003 software that
has been kept up to date and there is no indication of a
virus on my system.

Is there a generic problem with using Office 2000 with an
XP operating system? Do I need to upgrade Office to the
XP version? Or do I just need to change some of the
system defaults in XP, Word or Outlook?

I noticed on Microsoft's "Community News Group" page that
several other people are having problems with file
attachments even with Office 2003. But I do not see any
responses on how to fix these problems.

This is very frustrating since I cannot tell if an
attachment is received correctly or not. Please give me
some guidance.

Thanks,
Ron

Use Plain Text and stop using Word as the message editor.
