Outlook Backup and Restore on another machine

I have used microsoft's add-on backup tool for outlook. I have done the
back-up & now need to restore it on the new manchine. I have Office pro on
both machines. I also need to know if this is better than the import-export
function in outlook? I need to make sure I bring everything to the new
machine for outlook.

Thanks!

You should NEVER import to or export from a PST. There's no need and you
will lose data. In order to restore, copy the PST from the old machine to
some folder on the new machine. Do not overwrite any existing PST. What
you do next depends on whether you want the data from the other PC to be the
only data in Outlook or if you wish to supplement the data in that Outlook
with the data from the other PC. If the former, use the Mail applet in
Control Panel to add the PST to the mail profile and make it the delivery
location. If the latter, just open the PST in Outlook with
File>Open>Outlook Data File.

Consider exporting the rules on the old PC and copying the RWZ file to the
new PC as well so you can import the rules there. Moving a PST doesn't
always move the rules properly, if at all.

I tried to copy the pst file & put it on new machine but it didn't bring my
50+ categories. Did I do something wrong or will it not bring my master list
of categories that I have on my othe machine?
