Outlook broken by latest security updates

When I install the latest security updates from Microsoft then reboot the
computer and start Outlook 2007 I get the error message that Outlook is not
my default e-mail client. Also some of my add-ins to Outlook no longer work.
Anyone else have this problem and is there a solution?

Can you tell me exactly how you installed Outlook 2007? Mainly, I would
like to know what you did with your previous Outlook version before you
installed it.
Which add-ins are no longer working?
Were you able to make Outlook your default e-mail client again.
Several users have reported that the security patches broke their
Outlook 2007, but so far the reason for why this happened is elusive. I
hope you can help bring some light to this.

Thanks,

I fixed the my Outlook 2007 beta by running the installation setup and
selecting repair. It took a little to go all the way through, but seems to be
back to normal. Including the plugins and defalt email.

Which repair are you referring to? I went to the Help menu but "Detect &
Repair" isn't available.

Re the original post, I too cannot install the June security updates because
of this. The only way out I found was to use system restore to revert to
pre-security install. Of course this means the install prompts daily that
another update is ready.

I had Office 2003 installed when I installed the beta. I got a warning that
Outlook was not compatible with earlier versions, but assumed it was to be
uninstalled as part of the beta installation. When I discovered I had this
problem two days ago, I used Office 2003 "Modify" to uninstall Outlook 2003
but the security patch problem still occurs.

Use Help | Office Diagnostics instead.

Thanks Sue. Matter now resolved, although I'm rather unsure of how it
resolved itself!

When I (again!) downloaded the June Windows' updates, I noticed that control
panel | mail was also behaving stangely: I couldn't view my Outlook profile
properties and couldn't add a new profile.

When I started Outlook this time I got a prompt asking me if I wished to
install Outlook 2003 add-ons, so I chose no. When Outlook 2007 then started
I got a couple of warning messages but it did start. I immediately closed it
and restarted and the second (and susequent) time(s) it appears OK.

I've now run Diagnostics and it found nothing.

Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, Change Office 2007, Repair.
You can also try Office Diagnostics in Start, All Programs, Microsoft
Office, Microsoft Office Tools

Microsoft Update will suggest to install Outlook 2003 updates, even if
you removed it as long as Office 2003 is still on your computer. Long
story why it does that, but that's what it does :)

I simply installed Outlook 2007 over Outlook 2003. I did nothing to the 2003
version before installing. I have a SpamBayes addin that would no longer
work after the security update. I was able to make Outlook my default mail
client again by uninstalling Outlook 2003 through Add/Remove Programs. The
defaults for Outlook 2007, however, were changed by the security updates.
Also, I had to reboot my router after the security updates.

That your router could affected by security updates is rather unlikely.
Hmm, let me get this straight. You were able to uninstall 2003 after
2007 had been installed on your computer? Outlook 2003 wasn't removed by
the 2007 setup? Now that would explain a whole host of other things...
Thanks for the info!!
