Outlook Calendar/Appointment problem

Hey guys and gals, I'm having a problem with
the "private" checkbox on a 'calendar appointment form'
being disabled. I'm running Outlook XP via Exchange 2000.
I've created a public folder called "Company Calendar".
If I go to create a new appointment there, the "private"
checkbox is disabled; however, if I do it in my personal
calendar it's enabled. Kind of backwards there, isn't it?
Anyway, I'm wondering if I missed a setting on Exchange
to enable this or some such.

Any ideas?

The private setting is purposely disabled in public folders. The purpose of
this setting is to only allow the creator to see the item if the user has
delegates or other users who can view their calendar. Since public folders
are controlled by permissions and multiple users could be owners, the
feature gave a false sense of security. It was determined users should not
place private items on a public folder, or control the shares permissions to
prevent unauthorized users from viewing the item.
