Hello,
I did a clean install of Vista Beta 2 and Outlook 2007 Beta 2. In setting
up Outlook, I used the "Mail" tool under the Control Panel. I created a new
profile for my Outlook server which did not work (I sort of expected that).
When doing a manual installation and after having completed the
configuration, I clicked the "Check Name" button, a NTLM challenge/response
window displays to request my username/password. Typed that and wait a
period of time, then get a window that says: "The action cannot be completed.
The Connection to the Microsoft Exchange Server is unavailable. Outlook
must be online or connected to complete this action."
Closing the dialog results in this message: "Your server or mailbox names
cannot be resolved."
The next thing that happens is a dialog box pops up with the option to click
on "Check Name". Clicking this results in a different message: "The name
cannot be resolved. The connection to the Microsoft Exchange Server is
unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action."
Our server is running and I can connect to OWA (which is Exchange 2003) with
no problems. Outlook 2003 on Windows XP connects using the same exact
settings with no problems.
I set the following settings (I checked, re-checked and validated all
settings on a computer that does work with Windows XP/Outlook 2003):
Exchange Server: https://mail.servername/exchange
Use Cached Exchange Mode? Yes
Username: My.Mailbox
Did not choose "Check Name"
More Settings (canceled the "Check Name" dialog)
Here are the only things I changed in the "More Settings..." dialog box
Connect using a third-party dialer: Yes
Connect to my exchange mailbox using http: Yes
Exchange Proxy Settings...
https://mail.myserver.com
Connect using SSL only: Yes
Only connect to proxy servers that have this principal name in their
certificate: Yes
Proxy: msstd:mail.myserver.com
On fast networks, connect using HTTP first: Yes
On slow networks, connecting using HTTP first: Yes
Proxy authentication settings: Basic
Thanks,
-Bill
