Outlook check for duplicate contacts

According to the help in Outlook it says that if you try to save a duplicate
contact it will ask you if you want to add the new contact or update the
existing. I am not getting prompted with this dialogue box and the check box
is checked uder tools, options, contact options,"check for duplicate
contacts". Any ideas?

That usually means that the folder that contains the duplicate is not
connected to the Outlook Address Book Service. See if it is. Can't tell you
how. You provided no version.

Russ,
Thanks for your reply. I am using Outlook 2003 SP2, and exchange 2003 SP1.
When I try to drag and drop a duplicate contact from a pulic folder to my
local contacts I do not get prompted to add as new contact or update
existing, it automatically creates a duplicate, however if I create a new
duplicate contact within my local contacts and try to save and close I do get
prompted to add as new or update existing.
Basically, I want to copy all contacts from a public folder to my local
contacts or to another public folder and get prompted whether to update
existing or add as new, is this possible without a third party app?

That's a different issue entirely. Someone familiar with Exchange and PF
will need to answer.
